Idli sambar is a south Indian dish which is famous all over India for its taste and health benefits .South Indian dishes like Dosa , Idli , Uttapam are always paired up with a variety of chutneys to add traditional flavors .It goes perfect with DelicasiA Tomato Garlic Chutney which has the right flavors for your homemade south Indian food , without the hassles of making it at home.
Here is the recipe of sambar for all the south Indian food lovers :
1.Firstly, in a Pan heat 2 tsp oil & splutter 1 tsp mustard, ¼ tsp methi, a pinch of asafoetida/hing & curry leaves.
2.Add 2 onions, chilli & saute for a minute till its color changes. Further, add 1 chopped tomato & continue to cook .
3.Now you can add carrot, beans ,brinjal ,potato or any other vegetable of your choice .Saute for 2 minutes & then add ½ tsp jaggery, ¼ tsp turmeric,1 tsp salt & 1 cup water.
4.Mix well, cover & boil for 10 minutes or until the vegetables are almost cooked.
5.Add ¾ cup tamarind extract & mix it properly. Now, over & boil for 10 minutes.
6.Add 1 cup of boiled & whisked toor dal paste & mix properly.
7.Now ,add water & mix properly while adjusting its consistency and Boil for a minute .
8.Add 4 tsp of sambar powder. (ready-made sambar powder is easily available in stores) .Boil for a minute, until the flavors are absorbed nicely.
9.Add 2 tbsp coriander leaves & mix properly.
10.Finally, serve your sambar with hot steamed Idli & DelicasiA's tomato garlic chutney .
